It’s not just about books…today’s school libraries offer valuable information literacy skills that are integrated into the curriculum to help prepare students for a world where information (and misinformation) are obtained instantly.

But what is information literacy?

Ms. Costello works with subject teachers to provide guidance to students on accessing reliable information for academic research.  With the ability for anyone to publish online it is critical that students understand not only how to find what they need but to make sure it is reliable and relevant information.   She also constantly evaluates new technologies and then works with teachers to integrate them into the curriculum.

Examples of activities that take place in the library:

Monthly Digital Literacy Challenge
Ninth Grade Research Skills
Time Management
Citation and Works Cited
Academic Integrity
Promoting reading for pleasure
Web 2.0 Technology Classes
Schoolloop support for students and teachers

How can I help?

Volunteers are critical to providing support so that Ms. Costello can focus on working with teachers and students.  Help is needed with:

Re-shelving Books
